Last December 31 I started reading the book "Uneasy Paradise" Oscar Esquivias, first in a trilogy that our profession Pedro Escudero we proposed as a new collective reading in food quixotic.

I have not finished reading the book but I want to start my contribution to finding an example of how Esquivias care to the smallest detail.

knew of the existence of the artificial language Esperanto was created to facilitate communication between people of different cultures and in fact I was about to learn in my youth. Well, it was while reading "Unrest in Paradise" when I met another artificial language created a few years before: Volapük .

The truth is that when read as Augustine Garrus is presented, according to his business card, as professor emeritus of Volapük (p. 34), my first thought was "Wow, we started with the inventions, the author has released a new language of manga", but after appearing a couple of times the word " Glidis " with the most evident meaning of "Hello" or " Saludos "(pp. 64 and 116) I could and looked curiosity about the" Volapük . Here is a summary of what I found about it:

The Volapük was created by the German priest Johann Martin Schleyer in 1879 (in May of that year published a sketch of the Catholic magazine Volapük Sionsharfe, of which he was editor) and now in its third congress (Paris, 1889) was the Volapük only language used. At that time, the language created by Schleyer was at its highest point popularity, with an estimated number of 283 organizations, 25 periodicals in or about Volapük, and 316 textbooks in 25 languages. It created the International Academy of Volapük (Volapük bevünetik Kadam) in 1887 to preserve and improve the language.

The conference began its decline due to irreconcilable differences between sector reforms advocated in Volapük, headed by the director and then president of the Academy of Volapük, Auguste Kerckhoffs, and the more conservative sector did not want changes, the reference was itself Schleyer. All this caused splits in the movement and a major loss of support, as many fans turned their interest to other artificial languages, Esperanto especially, emerged in 1887.

In the decade of 1920-30, the Dutchman Arie de Jong carried out a reform of the language published in 1931. The new revised version of Volapük was accepted by all and is currently employed by the few dozen speakers of the language, most (if not entirely) Esperanto interested in the history of languages artificial.
